Gyms For Weight Loss

Salisbury Gyms For Weight Loss

The truth about the fitness industry is that it’s like any other industry concerned about the bottom line. That may seem harsh, but the truth is that every gym, supplement manufacturer, vitamin shop, and TV exercise equipment peddler, and personal trainer for that matter is concerned about making a profit. Don’t get me wrong - that’s no bad thing - everyone has to make a living and alot of what is been offered is beneficial to your health.  Besides, what price can you put on your health ?

Now, can gyms really help you with weight loss?

A colleague of mine made an interesting comparison between a gym club membership and a golf club membership. He explained that once you’d joined the golf club, as nice as the fairways and greens may be, to improve your game it makes sense to take some lessons from the club golf professional.

A gym’s equivalent of well manicured fairways and snooker table smooth greens are the rows of shiny new treadmills, bikes and weight lifting machines.

One of the benefits of joining a gym is that you normally get an induction on how to use the equipment, and this is often supported with a basic programme to get you started. After that, you are pretty much on your own.

Here’s the reality: unless you know exactly what you are trying to accomplish mentally, physically, and nutritionally, your chances of losing weight with a standard gym membership and basic programme are low to nil.

Why?

Because factors such as your personal life, work life, nutritional needs, emotional support needs, and past experiences are rarely if ever taken into consideration when designing your beginner starter programme. That’s no fault of the gym instructor; they're only employed to do the basics, which is to get you started in a safe way - the rest is up to you.

Back to the golf professional... the gyms equivalent is a personal trainer. You may have read about these people. The media would have you believe that their goal is to work you within an inch of your life in order to help you get the results you’re after (ficition in most cases, but it sells papers).

A personal trainer is there to teach you how to get fit, lose weight, tone up and most importantly, how to maintain it when they are not around.

So in summary, gyms can be a good place to start for weight loss and improved health and fitness.  These goals can be enhanced and often achieved far quicker when you are prepared to work either one to one or in a small group with a personal trainer and coach that has proven experience.
